The Political Playground

July 21st, 2010

On July 14th the NAACP passed a resolution condemning the racist elements with in the Tea Party movement. Needless to say that didn?t go over well with the Tea Party or the conservative movement in general.

Now, I’ll be honest, I haven?t read the text of the resolution, but I find it hard to believe that the NAACP was actually condemning the entire Tea Party Movement, and was instead just targeting the racist fringe elements, elements that tend to exist within all most any political movement. Elements that most Tea Party leaders themselves have been trying to remove.

So, on the 19th, Andrew Brietbart dug up some video clips from an NAACP awards dinner in March where Shirley Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development gave a speech, edited them to remove any context, and posted them on his site Big Government in an attempt to prove a point. Using editied video to undermine your political opponents has exploded thanks to the advent of the YouTube era.

Who I Am

Born and raised in the great state of Iowa. I love it here and plan to live out my days here. I was born in August of 1972 and I am a child of the 80′s. I vividly remember the day Ronald Reagan was shot and the day we invaded Iraq under Bush 41. I joined the United States Air Force in 1991, going to basic in San Antonio, TX and being stationed at Elendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK.

After 1 enlistment tour I returned home to Iowa. Instead of returning to my roots in Derby, Iowa I took up residence in Grinnell. I worked for a short time at a book store and then stocking shelves at the local grocery store.

In 1997 I was hired into my first factory job as a Press Operator at a company that specializes in custom injection molding parts for the Automotive, Agricultural, Appliance, and Consumer industries. It didn’t take long for me to work my way up from the floor to where I am now, Quality Engineer, and finally to where I am now, Quality Manager.

I also had a small game shop in Grinnell called The Chaos Bazaar that I can part time, bu I closed it in 2001 having finailly decided that I just didn’t have enough time to run the shop and have a full time job.

I am an avid (addict) computer gamer. From December 2004 until February 2011, my addiction was World of Warcraft. My main character was Amradorn, a Tauren Druid. I was the guild leader of Foederati from the guild’s founding at the end of Jan, ’05 until my retirement, when I handed over leadership of the guild to Mustafar, a fellow officer and good friend.

I haven’t settled on a new game as of yet. I’ve tried Rift and while it’s a good game it just seems like it’s just more of the same in it’s similarities to WoW. I also have a Lifetime Subscription to Star Trek Online, and I tend to log in and play about once a week. I’m also a pretty big wargamer and I do spend quite a bit of time playing Hearts of Iron 3. Now that there is a new game shop in Grinnell called Multiverse Comics and Games (Website - Facebook) I have dusted off my Magic cards and D&D books that have been collecting dust for the last 10 years and I’m playing again.
