On July 14th the NAACP passed a resolution condemning the racist elements with in the Tea Party movement. Needless to say that didn?t go over well with the Tea Party or the conservative movement in general.
Now, I’ll be honest, I haven?t read the text of the resolution, but I find it hard to believe that the NAACP was actually condemning the entire Tea Party Movement, and was instead just targeting the racist fringe elements, elements that tend to exist within all most any political movement. Elements that most Tea Party leaders themselves have been trying to remove.
So, on the 19th, Andrew Brietbart dug up some video clips from an NAACP awards dinner in March where Shirley Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development gave a speech, edited them to remove any context, and posted them on his site Big Government in an attempt to prove a point. Using editied video to undermine your political opponents has exploded thanks to the advent of the YouTube era.

Gay Marriage Ruling Possiably Soon in Iowa
The Iowa Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the Varnum v. Brien case on December 9th, 2008. We still have not had a ruling yet but many activists believe that believe that it will come back in favor of striking down Iowa’s current ban on same sex marriages. Per KCCI, no date has been set yet, but it could be fairly soon. Fortunately it’s a lot more difficult to change the Iowa State constitution than it is to change California’s so if the ruling does come back in favor of allowing same sex marriages it will take sometime and be difficult to over turn it. A state constitutional amendment baning same sex marriage was proposed in 2008 due to Judge Hanson’s ruling that paved the way for marriages to happen for about at the end of last August, however it was defeated in the state legislature. It would have to be brought up again this year, which appears to be unlikly, and passed. It would then have to be brought up yet again in the 2010 state legislature and passed before going to be voted on by the people in a general election in November 2010.
Movie of the Week
This is a new feature of the blog. Every week on Saturday I will feature one movie from my DVD library. This weeks movie is ?City of Ember?.
It?s a movie about survival, desperation, and greed, set in the underground city of Ember. The last bastion of humanity, built to provide a temporary haven for humanity after some unknown calamity brings the surface world to the brink of extinction.
The premise of the movie is intriguing, and reminds me a lot of another movie in my collection, Logan?s Run. Bill Murray makes a funny, overweight mayor. It is based on the book by the same name which is part of a series of books. The movie does seem to move a tad slow in some parts, but overall I would rate the movie 4 stars out 5.
Check after the break for ways to get City of Ember?

I find myself not too happy with Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today. It appears that on Wednesday he went on to the liberal talk radio show of Bill Press and said?
